You're tense, tired, or simply overdue for some real relaxation, so you type "massage near me" into your phone. Dozens of results appear, and most of them look alike. How do you pick the right one?
At Wellzen by Diana, a massage studio in Saldanha, Lisbon, we believe a great massage starts with choosing the right therapist for your body and your goals. This guide covers the types of massage available, a nine-point checklist for comparing any provider, what Lisbon massage prices look like, what to expect on your first visit, and answers to the questions we hear most.
Which Type of Massage Is Right for You?
Before comparing providers, it helps to know what you want from your session. Here are the treatments we offer at Wellzen and who each one suits.
Relaxing Massage (Massagem Relaxante)
Soft, flowing movements that dissolve built-up tension. The best starting point for stress relief, general well-being, and first-timers.
Therapeutic Massage (Massagem Terapêutica)
Focused work on pain areas and chronic tension, using specific techniques to rebalance the body. Suited to posture problems, long-standing aches, and recovery.
Deep Tissue Massage
Firm pressure that reaches the tightest muscle layers. A good fit for deep muscular tension and the physical stress that comes from long desk days or intense training.
Ayurvedic Massage
An Indian tradition using warm oils and rhythmic movements to restore balance between body and mind.
Hot Stones Massage
Heated volcanic stones that carry warmth deep into the muscles, supporting circulation and intense relaxation.
Prenatal Massage (Pré-Mamã)
Adapted for expectant mothers to ease lower back pain, swelling, and tension. Always book prenatal work with a therapist who offers it specifically.
Cupping Therapy (Ventosaterapia)
Controlled suction that releases deep tension and supports circulation. It works well alongside a massage.
Back, Shoulders and Head
A shorter 40-minute session aimed at the most stressed areas: neck, shoulders, and head. Helpful for tension headaches and "laptop neck."
Not sure which one fits? A good therapist will ask about your goals and recommend the right approach. At Wellzen you can also message us on WhatsApp and Diana will help you choose.
9 Things to Check Before You Book a Massage
1. Licensing and Training
Look for a certified therapist whose background is clearly stated. Diana Ferreira, our founder, trained in sports massage and physiotherapy-support techniques (4NTEP) and in SPA massage (CEN), and has worked in hotel and SPA settings. Whoever you choose, you should be able to find this kind of information easily.
2. Real Reviews
Look beyond the star rating. Read recent reviews on Google and booking platforms, and look for comments about professionalism, listening, and consistency.
3. Cleanliness and Atmosphere
Fresh linens, a tidy space, and a calm environment are basics, not luxuries. Photos and reviews that mention the space tell you a lot before you walk in.
4. Specialties That Match Your Needs
If you want deep work on tight muscles, look for deep tissue experience. If you're pregnant, look for prenatal training. A provider that lists specialties clearly usually has real depth in them.
5. Convenient Location and Hours
The best massage is the one you can actually get to. We're open Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 21:00, which makes after-work appointments possible.
6. Transport and Parking
We're a 5-minute walk from Saldanha metro (Yellow and Red lines), and there are car parks nearby: Parque Saldanha (Rua Latino Coelho) is 3 minutes away and Parque Avenidas Novas (Rua Tomás Ribeiro) is 5 minutes away.
7. Cancellation and Booking Process
Check that booking is easy and that the policy is clear. You can book online 24/7, by WhatsApp, or by phone.
8. A Proper First-Visit Consultation
A good provider starts with a short conversation about your health history, problem areas, and pressure preferences. If a clinic skips this, consider it a red flag.
9. Transparent Pricing
You should see what each service costs before you book, with no surprises. Which brings us to the next question.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment
First visits can feel intimidating, but they don't need to be.
- Arrival and consultation. Arrive about 5 minutes early to settle in. Your therapist will ask about your goals, any pain or injuries, and your preferred pressure.
- Getting comfortable. Most clients undress to their comfort level, keeping underwear on if they prefer. You're covered with a sheet or towel the whole time, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
- The massage itself. Speak up at any point. If the pressure is too much or too little, a good therapist wants to know.
- Aftercare. Expect advice on hydration, stretching, and how often to return for the best results. You don't need to bring anything. Towels, sheets, and essential oils are provided.
